One of the most illustrious courses offered at Prescott College is our Grand Canyon semester. Imagine twelve weeks dedicated to learning the in’s and out’s of one of the world’s greatest wonders -- which happens to be in our backyard. This course consists of several four-credit courses including: Wilderness Expeditions and Recreation, Landscape Ecology & Public Land Issues, Resource Management & Conservation Leadership, and the Cultural Geography of Grand Canyon to create a broad interdisciplinary curriculum. Students will engage in on hands learning through a full-length river trip and a backpacking journey of the Grand Canyon. During every experience students will be challenged to think critically about the sociocultural landscapes, taking time to understand the correlation between the landscape and its indigenous peoples and the impact of european culture past and present. Students will also develop a multilayered lens of examination to consider the impact of climate change, sustainability, resource management, the anthropocene epoch and the influence of humans on the land.
